Lewes HarborNick Carter (aka Frank Saulsbury Carter III)
My great-grandfather William Purnell Carter lived at 207 W.4th Street in Lewes and my grandfather Frank (Pats) S. Carter Sr. lived at 345 Market Street and 412 Bay Avenue in Lewes. Pats built his beach house on the bay front in 1923 and my father bought his home on Lewes Beach on Bay Avenue in 1946 where I grew up. I had such a great childhood on Lewes Beach; swimming, water skiing, sailing at the Lewes Yacht Club, fishing, scuba diving and surfing at Indian River Inlet. The current 9th Grade Lewes Academy on Savannah Road was my school for 12 years; while attending Lewes High School I played basketball for 3 years and football for 2 years; I graduated in the class of 1965. I joined the Navy Reserves while in high school and applied to the United States Naval Academy. After high school, I attended Columbian Preparatory School in Washington DC for one year prior to my plebe year at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis. During my 4 years at Navy, I was an active member of the Navy Sailing team earning a Varsity Letter during my sophomore year. I graduated from USNA in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree and was commissioned as an Officer in the US NAVY as an Ensign. My father was a member of USNA '42 and a World War II Veteran, my grandfather graduated from USNA in 1909 and was a World War I Veteran. After graduation I reported to San Diego, CA and soon thereafter deployed to Vietnam for two back-to-back tours of duty on a Naval Combatant Ship - the USS ORLECK (DD-886) as 'Gun Fire Support Ship' just South of the DMZ and 'Pilot Rescue Ship' for the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) in the Tonkin Gulf. After 3 years aboard ship, I taught Anti-Submarine Warfare and left the Navy in 1975 to attend graduate school at San Diego State University seeking my MBA in Finance. I started my own Solar Energy Company in 1977 and in 1980 joined Prudential Securities in La Jolla, CA as a Stock Broker. After 10 years, I decided to switch careers and received my California Real Estate Broker's license and worked as a Realtor and Mortgage Broker in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. from 1990 to 1997. I moved back to Lewes in December 1997, obtained my Delaware Real Estate Broker's License and joined Jack Lingo Realtors in Lewes on January 1, 1998. I have known the Lingo family since 1957 when they built their home across the street from our house on Bay Avenue in Lewes. I married Laura A. Draper from Milford, DE on March 18, 2000.
